wanderful wednesday: weekend at Porches Inn

This past weekend Doug and I took a quick getaway to Porches out in the Berkshires. Porches is a funky little inn located in North Adams, MA, a small sleepy town that houses MASS MoCA---the museum of contemporary art. By sleepy town, I mean we were lucky to see another human being walking the streets on Saturday afternoon. It was the perfect place to just veg out and "chay".

Our three hour road trip started out strong with heart donuts, turbo hot chocolate, and lots of Rihanna. I think we also managed to quote the entire season of Angry Boys (hang loose fingahs) and have a full blown car dance off. Clearly our ride was very enlightening and full of intellectual discussion.

We were welcomed to our cozy suite with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir (bottle to myself...score!). The weather was chilly, and perfect for nestling in and beginning our lazy retreat. After catching up on some shows, we walked down town and had lunch at Brewhaha and poked around the local art galleries. While we didn't make our way to MASS MoCA (we were serious sloths and not in the mood to turn on our brains), we did see some really cool art done by disabled artists. We played scramble by Porches' fireplace, enjoyed warm afternoon cookies, and relaxed in their hot tub. Then after a day of doing wonderfully nothing, we headed for dinner at a very funky (or trendy as Doug would say) restaurant called Public eat+drink.

Public was amazing. We split a chicken pesto flatbread, a Brie burger, and the most incredible Mac and Cheese with pancetta, smoke gouda, and roasted tomato. We listened to the live jazz band, then rolled our way back to the inn and fell into food-induced comas.

It twas wonderful.

And what did we do the next morning when we awoke? Eat again. Duh.

We had the most relaxing breakfast, with the inn's famous warm chocolate croissants, homemade granola, and artisan cheeses. Following breakfast, we hit the road headed back to beantown. We felt well-rested, well-fed, and very very happy.

It was the perfect "facation", and just what the doctor ordered (well, minus our caloric intake and lack of exercise).

Oh P.S. Did I mention they had these amazingly comfortable bathrobes that made us feel like ballers? Yup.

Thanks ya nug :)
