As a present to my mom for her birthday, I planned a fun couple of days for us in the city. We started the weekend off with the most amazing dinner at Ten Tables in Cambridge {gift card c/o of Tim and Carrie...tank u vewy much!}
It's the coziest restaurant tucked outside Harvard Square, and the food is absolutely fantastic. Both Mae and I agreed it was the best meal we've had in a long time. We both ordered the winter green salad with candied walnuts, saba, and lemon vinaigrette, followed by the swiss chard cannelloni with winter mushroom ragu and fontina d'aosta. Then, we finished with the most amazing dish of all: chocolate terrine with sea salt and thai basil ice cream. We literally died and went to heaven. When I someday hit the lottery, I'm going to have that delivered to my door every night and I will swoon in it's salty, fudgey wonderfulness while galavanting around my mansion in a nighty. Until then, I'm just going to have to go back to Ten Tables.
Post dinner we made our way to Ryles Jazz Club in Inman Square to listen to Soul City, a great Boston Motown band. Mae loves her Motown music.
We danced the night away to Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, the Temptations, etc. Ryles was the perfect venue to listen to the band play, and I loved their bar with the piano keys:
After a fabulous evening, Mae spent the night at "le hotel a Charlestown".... talk about classy. Look at the towels expertly laid out for her arrival!
Saturday morning we got breakfast at our local coffee shop Zumes, then headed to one of my favorite places in Boston: The Intercontinental Spa.
It's one of the most relaxing places ever. Before your treatments, you can sit in their "zen room" while drinking exotic herbal teas, cucumber infused water, and listen to enya, or enjoy a nice cleanse in the eucalyptus steam room. They have a great gym overlooking the financial district with a lap pool. Mae and I enjoyed the amenities, and then received our treatments (her: massage/facial combo, me: spa pedicure). After your treatments, they ask you to just chill out in the tempurpedic armchairs for 10 minutes while eating dried cherries and apricots. If you say so!!
We finished off our spa-venture with bloody marys and crab cakes at the Intercontinental Lobby Bar. I mean, those are cleansing too right?
Best post ever. Period. That's a fact.
